TLC Diet: How You Can Actually Lose Weight

For many people, the art of losing weight is just that – an art form.

Many people struggle with the concept as they find it hard to keep their weight down. And if you are one of those people, then you should consider the Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet.

What Is TLC Diet?

This diet has become increasingly popular with people who are serious about getting into shape. It can improve your quality of life and help you build an effective way to keep the weight off.

Typically, the rules of the TLC diet include lowering saturated fat and sodium intake. It also comes with some general lifestyle changes, such as getting more physically active.

Not sure where to start?

Let’s take a look at how you could use the TLC diet to your advantage.

Keep your intake of saturated fat below 7 percent

The first demand of the diet is to make sure that you keep your saturated fat intake on any given day at 7%. This is going to mean eating a lot more wholesome foods and going for foods that are healthy and natural.

You may have to empty out the food pantry of various foods that you enjoy. Still, any good diet like this is going to need you to make concessions.

Limit your sodium intake to 2400 mg a day

Sodium is, for most of us, coming into our bodies through salt. Though we need sodium in our system, many of us get far too much sodium from excess salt intake.

For this diet, you should be limiting your intake of sodium to 2400mg a day. That will take a lot of effort since you’ll have to find replacements for your salty snacks. It will also mean finding a seasoning that is sodium-free and spicing up your meals with healthier spices and other goods.

Start your day the right way

A fine starting point to make sure that you enjoy your diet is to change up how you start the day.

For breakfast, make sure that you use a full cup of oatmeal and one cup of fat-free milk. This is a fine start to any day as it allows your body plenty of time to absorb the oats and use the energy properly.

If you do this, then you are much more likely to be left with a smaller desire to keep on eating.

Enjoy a pasta salad for lunch

When lunch comes, we recommend that you prepare a single cup of pasta salad combined with a ¾ cup of pasta. This will give you enough carbs to get through the second half of the day.

At first, you can keep it simple. If you keep having pasta salad for lunch, you can eventually be more ambitious with the ingredients that you include.

Roll with 1 teaspoon soft margarine in dinner

One of the best ways to improve your daily eating is to reduce the kind of foods that you usually have for dinner. Many of us will struggle with this as most of us don’t like preparing dinners that we might not enjoy.

However, contrary to what you might be thinking, a healthy dinner is something that’s light. Try and look at things like rice, corn, and broccoli to make up the majority of your dinner.

Be sure to use soft margarine, too. It can improve your dinner’s taste and leave you with a dinner that might be a bit more wholesome than what you have at present.

TLC and Its Effects

Like many diets, the effects that you will see from the TLC diet are more long-term.

However, in your early days in the diet, you won’t notice major changes. Don’t let this put you off doing the TLC diet, though. It isn’t just about losing weight but changing your lifestyle as well.

You should cut out things like smoking and drinking or at least heavily moderate your intake. You should also look to get your cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart rate checked on a regular basis. These should, if you follow the diet correctly, begin to show improvements over time.

Part of the TLC diet’s main benefits is that it does allow you to indulge a little. It’s one of the reasons why so many people love this diet.
